The antique painting…..

I have had this oil painting on top of the vasselier for many years. The moment I saw it I fell in love with the soft muted colors. Of course I just had to have it even though it didn’t have a frame…… and it was a little on the pricey side.
painting 3
It has been displayed in a few different rooms over the years but has never had a frame…..until a few days ago! I decided to hang the cow painting that was here before in the living room which meant I needed something to fill the now empty space. I instantly thought of this painting and knew it would be just perfect in the spot. After I hung the painting I stood back and thought how it really needed a frame. Later that day as I was walking thru the living room  I noticed the smallest frame I had leaning aginst the wall next to the armoire looked like it was the same size as the oil painting!!!! However upon closer examination I realized the painting was just a little longer than the picture frame. I pondered it for a while and then thought, hmmmm I wonder if I can shorten the wood stretcher? After looking at it I decided it was indeed possible. Now the hardest part, convincing my husband to cut the wood stretcher down. After a little begging I persuaded him to just try it…..it only took about ten mintutes and now it looks like the painitng has always been in the frame!!!!

A new slipcovered settee…….

Remember when I decided that I wanted a simpler seating group in the living room? Well that lasted for about five months and then I decided I missed the settee seating arrangement.

living room

I started looking for a settee and while there were a lot of petite antique pieces none were suitable for slipcovering. Then one day when I had pretty much given up the search I found this settee on Craig’s List.

Untitled 1

My husband did not share my excitement when he first saw it…..he couldn’t see past the blue upholstery. I kept reassuring him it would be wonderful once it was slipcovered.

The wood on the arms is sooooo pretty…..

I had to use a really heavy denim fabric so the blue upholstery fabric would not show thru the slipcover since I didn’t want to line the slipcover. I broke a lot of needles and said a lot of bad words while making the slipcover!!!! In the end it turned out beautiful though and it was well worth it. The settee that was in the living room before is upstairs in the hallway sitting area.

Have a great weekend my friends!!!

Peaceful Sunday…..

Chateau Hogemeyer, built around 1750 in Belgium. Many people have lived here and did some work to it. The chapel was added around 1860, then all info just stops. Then in 2001 the “chateau” and attached farm became monuments, but it was abandoned for some time and the weather took its toll. Some people have tried to save it, however costs are just too high.:

while loving someone deeply gives you courage.

In the garden…..

A robin made her nest in the weeping pussy willow tree a few weeks ago.

She laid three eggs….two hatched on the same day and the other the next day.

The little birdies are getting so big that they all barely fit in the nest. I’m sure they will be flying away very soon. It has been so much fun watching them grow…..

We lost one of our little trees this spring to the frost. The other little one that we planted at the same time is doing really well though.

We have two of these little topiary trees, one on each side of the front door. Looks like they could use a little trimming….

So, that’s a snippet of our garden these days!

Have a great week my friends!!!!
